Free · Symphony Concert №3: Kristiina Poska and Andreas Haefliger

Location: Casino Bern, Salon Bernois

The pianist Andreas Haefliger had to use a lot of persuasion to persuade Dieter Ammann to compose a piano concerto. And then it was also a matter of being patient, because Ammann describes himself as a composer who works particularly slowly and carefully. When the score, which was peppered with difficulties, was ready, Haefliger had to perform a pianistic tour de force – which he mastered brilliantly. After the acclaimed premiere at the London "Proms" in 2019 and further enthusiastically received performances, the "Gran Toccata" will now also be heard in Bern, conducted by the Estonian Kristiina Poska, who has been chief conductor of the Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen since 2019. She places Bruckner's Seventh Symphony alongside Ammann's densely composed music. Its premiere in 1884 is considered the greatest triumph which Bruckner was able to achieve during his lifetime. As in the third symphony, which will be heard at our 10th symphony concert in April 2023, Bruckner expresses his admiration for Richard Wagner in his own musical language.
